Male perspective on taking a break?

The father of my baby says that he is considering us going on a break, and we are thinking it over overnight.

He says he wants a prolonged period of time without friendship and with minimal contact to decide if we wantto be together or are better off apart. I have done my fair bit of googlibg tonight and all I'm getting is if a man wants a break, he is playing the field. However, this man wants an exclusive break. So I am confused.

Should I reject the idea of a break outright and say take ot or leave it? Or should I give it a specified time for a break? We can't not see each other because of visitation.

We are currently not together, in a wishy washy state, and are defining boundaries.

I just want a strong man by my side to be a man, and I honestly thought that he was the one for me. He told me two days ago that he loves me and saw me as his forever girl, but then I blew it (I left him last year and he really resents that I made my reasons for the break up quite public.)

He also said today that for the past week he has been having nightmares about me cheating on him that he can't shake (this is nothing new and has been the single most detrimental thing in our relationship when we were together.) He did acknowledge that it was his issue and not mine, and he didn't want to continue hurting me.

I am torn as to what to do? Should I agree to the break? The sites I have been reading pretty much say that I am kiddibg myself if I think he is not going to cheat. However, I really don't feel like he is playing the field. If anything, he seems to have become a recluse, spending lots of time alone at home, and wants to go travelling along the coast for a few days with his surfboard to clear his head, he said. Am I just a fool?
