Coping with other teenagers

  • Thread Starter

Hello, as the title refers, I have some issues in coping with some teenage behaviour.

I am not religious but have been raised by quite conservative parents and would have quite strict, strong views. I don't force my views upon anyone else but at the same time I find it hard to tolerate people who take drugs etc. I don't mind drinking and could just about accept smoking.

I feel as though I am going to be in for a shock once I hit university (18 years old) and I don't know how I am going to cope with this. I am from a rural area where most people are respectful and quiet so we would not have drugs/rock & roll here. I notice with me I don't really find any common ground with most teenagers as it just seems that all they are interested in is sex and drinking where as I am interested in latest affairs e.g. news or the exams etc. I don't have any time for people who are shallow and do things to impress others. ('sheep'). I want to be able to get on with university and cope with others but at the same time not feel like my views are constantly being attacked by people cursing etc.

Is anyone else like this? How did you cope with the massive change in atmosphere?
