Jamaicans are seeking slavery reparations from Great Britain. I won't argue for a second that slavery was right or fair, but the alternative for an African descendant of the slave trade would be to be a citizen of Africa. The average life expectancy for a Jamaican is 73 years. The average life expectancy for an African is about 58. The GDP per person PPP for Jamaica is substantially higher than that of the majority of African citizens. Without a doubt, the actual slaves were disadvantaged, compared to their free African relatives, but the descendants of those slaves seem to be substantially better off than the average contemporary citizen of Africa. Jamaicans want Brits to promise there will never be any more slavery. Brits got out of the slave business in the 1830s. There is slavery today and quite a bit of it is in Africa, just as there was before the first Europeans became interested in the practice.
