This post makes me sad but I don't know what else I can really do. Basically, I have been friends with Robert for ten years so through teenage years, into adulthood as we met at school. As teenagers we were together for a while, but outgrew each other. After that ended, we decided we'd still like to be friends as we were before. And we have been - for the past seven years we have been friends and seen eachother through several relationships without any problems.
Until a few months ago. I was going through a hard time personally (would rather not go into the reasons) and my friend suggested I come around to his for a few drinks/a relaxed night. I did...and throughout the evening he produced three bottles of wine, which I stupidly helped him drank. But I was feeling lower than low, which he knew. He was feeling down because his girlfriend had went abroad/he missed her and the whole thing was a bad combination. Eventually he put the moves on me and said he loved me (though later said it was a friendly type of love). Afterwards I spoke to my friend about it and she said it had been obvious for years that he was in love with me...
Basically, I now have a new boyfriend and don't feel it would be appropriate to keep up the 'friendship' with Robert anymore, though it makes me sad. My new guy and I are talking about going travelling together and things are getting pretty serious. Am I taking extreme action or is this the right thing to do?
