I met my now ex-boyfriend on Tinder around September. I'm on my last year at university while he's doing a traineeship scheme for the civil service. We hit it off immediately and we had great dates together! I was a virgin cause I'd never met someone I really like and the idea of having sex with a stranger didn't appeal to me. Anyway, he met my flatmates and we spent some nights all together having a great time. He went to Berlin with friends and brought me some amazing gifts even though we hadn't even talked about being serious. In December, right before I went home for Christmas, we established we were in a relationship and we spent together two awesome days and during the Christmas holidays we texted each other almost every day. He went on another trip and got me other gifts he was really excited to give me!
However, in January, after coming back to London, things started to go bad. We met once in early January and it was great, but after that he stopped texting me. We were never great on texting, and I liked it that way but now 5 days would pass without us talking. If I texted him he would reply but he never started the conversation. He told me he was really busy at work and that he felt shattered everyday. I should point out that he doesn't live in London but he's living with his parents in Luton to save money so meeting on weekends was really hard. I was busy myself but I asked him to meet and asked him if everything was all right and if he wanted to talk. Again, he said work was getting really busy since he has to study and work at the same time but that otherwise he had no problems with the relationship whatsoever. I told him it would be nice if we texted a bit more, cause not hearing from him for days made me worried. He said okay, but nothing changed.
We didn't talk for one week and at some point I texted him asking if he was all right. He waited one day and then texted me asking me out for coffee and I knew from the tone of the message that we were gonna break up.
He said he's too busy with work. Apparently, from January he's required to work full-time and study for exams as well so he literally has no time for a relationship. I asked him if that was the real reason and he swore that it's true, that he's busy on weekends playing rugby, he works all week and it's not fair on me. He gave me the gifts he'd got me on his last trips, plus some things which we'd seen together at Liberty (I wanted to get them but I didn't have time that day, so he went back and got them for me...). I was heartbroken but I didn't show it and actually encouraged him to do the right thing and keep the good effort with his work. He seemed really stressed and sad as well. He asked me to be friends and although at first I said I didn't know, in the end I agreed we could go for coffee sometimes.
We haven't talked ever since. I'm trying to get over him and I know we didn't date for long, but I really liked this guy and I thought he liked me as well. Things were going great and we did work as a couple. That's why I feel I don't want to lose him over the fact that he has no time now. What should I do?
