H sees family after a year - progress?

Hi guys. I've posted here a few times regarding H's narcissism, PA tendencies, odd attitude towards my family etc. Well, today was the first day (in over 12 months) that he's seen my sister, her hubby and two kids.

This is only due to the fact I invited them over (and currently have my niece who's only 7 staying over). I've been so fed up with his lack of effort to go see anyone in my family over the past year with no valid reason - when I've asked him he will say he's indifferent or doesn't care etc. It deeply hurts me.

So the last couple of days have been a little fraught between us (not knowing if he's going to behave or be civil, him making odd remarks that he doesn't need to hang around when they're here etc) - when my sister dropped off my niece he carried on working in the garden with a guy we have had working with us over the past couple of months - he did say hi and had a little chat but didn't come in as I'd made some food for everyone (ok he'd eaten earlier with the gardener).

Then tonight he's great with my niece. He bought us fish and chips. Sat on the opposite sofa whilst we painted our nails and read stories, played games. I just don't get it. Of course he's not going to be rude or horrible to a little girl but when I've mentioned anyone in my family over the past year he tells me he just doesn't give a d***.

My sister says baby steps. Yes he doesn't have a big family (just his mum left whom he's happy to see once a year) but it's important to me that he at least makes an effort with my family a few times a year - so I'm pleased with today given my sister doesn't hold any grudges and my family are always so nice to him.

I guess any question I would pose here is if anyone else has experienced something similar after tying the knot? I guess if there are more invites to our home he'll start coming round because he just won't get in the car and go see them. He was NEVER like this before we married. My family are lovely, they never interfere, would do anything for him etc. :scratchhead:
