Hey all, really hoping for some solid advice here.
My husband has had high blood pressure (that I've known about, at least) for the last two years. He's 24, physically active, has slowed way down on his drinking, eats fairly healthy...yet his baseline blood pressure seems to be mid-to-high 130's over 90's. I'm an LVN, not a doctor, but I definitely know that isn't a normal blood pressure for a healthy young man, and it worries me a LOT. If it continues at this rate, I'm pretty positive he'll end up having a stroke before he's 30.
I've been begging him for months to see a doctor. He swears that he is fine, his blood pressure is normal. I show him my blood pressure in comparison, and he swears mine must just be unnaturally low (my average is 100's over 70's, which is pretty normal). I've shown him literature. People other than me have commented on his blood pressure (without my prompting). I've told him, point-blank, I'm scared that he may either end up gravely ill or dead. He still refuses to get medical treatment. He insists that he doesn't want to take pills and that the doctors won't tell him anything useful.
It isn't just this issue though: he's also had back pain, stemming from his active duty time. Again, I tell him to please see a doctor, because it's not normal that walking in a regular pair of sneakers for an extended period of time causes him such intense pain he has to lay down the rest of the day. He refuses for the same reasons.
Now, if I'm sick, he's fine with saying "let's go to the doctor" or "let's go to the ER". It's just himself that this hatred of doctors is linked to, and it doesn't matter what the reason is, he will resist going in to be seen by a provider.
I know he's his own person and will make his own choices, and they won't mesh with mine. I have been working recently not to comment as much, because I understand I can't force him to do anything. But it really worries me that he won't see the doctor if he's having medical issues, and the blood pressure thing seriously scares me. Is there anything I can do?
