But our state university now offers an "online degree" program (same school my kids attend). It's more expensive than some of the no-name colleges offering online degrees, but it's still a fraction of the cost of attending a bricks-and-mortar school. And you get an ACTUAL DEGREE from a recognized MAJOR university. Are they TRYING to put themselves out of business?!
I happen to believe that the college "experience" -- leaving home, living on your own, attending lectures, (going to Frat parties ) -- is VERY important.
But if the spiraling cost of college isn't reigned in, I honestly believe -- within one generation -- a college degree, and how one comes about it -- will take on a whole new "face."
These hallowed institutions really need to take pause and regroup.
