At the start of term I split up with my boyfriend of four months. He had become increasingly insecure and obsessive about knowing where I was. Eventually he accused me of cheating (I would never cheat and never did anything that could even be misinterpreted as cheating) so I ended it once and for all.
To say the least, he took it badly. He bombarded me with texts, came to my room late at night on two occasions where he begged me to take him back, promised to change etc. He's a sweet boy and I was his first proper girlfriend so I'm trying to be understanding but now I'm a bit stuck.
Last weekend we were both out at the same club. We were with separate groups but did say hi. Later in the night I ended up going home with someone which isn't normally my thing but was perfectly fine and we had a good time together. The next morning I heard that after I'd left my ex had gone up to my friends and started calling me a tramp and saying some very hurtful things.
I confronted him about this and I got a tearful apology and a renewed request that we get back together. This time he threatened to kill himself if we didn't, although he later took that back.
Does anyone have any advice? He's too up and down to stay friends with, but I would like to stay civil since we are on the same course. I don't know whether to speak with a tutor. As of a few days ago I've started seeing, in secret, someone else on my course. I've explained the situation to him and he understands that it's better for us to be discreet, at least until my ex has moved on but I'm not prepared to sneak around forever. I think my ex is basically a good guy handling this badly. If anyone has any ideas I would really it appreciate it.
