Imagine if this was you:
I can't go back to uni, I can't a job, I have lost all of my friends and I'm losing my self-esteem, I get anxiety, I can't sleep, I can't leave my home, I can't get a boyfriend, I am really starting to hate myself and worst of all, I can't afford the £4000 that I need. The surgery takes 15 mins but the NHS is refusing to provide it.
The reason I am in this situation is because have VERY BAD BREATH. I am not anonymous because revealing my problem is less embarassing than the treatment I receive in real life. This has made me really lonely and self-conscious. I know people on here are going to insult me but some will have the compassion to help out. I brush my teeth - sometimes until I bleed, but my teeth and tongue aren't the problem. My tonsils are. Food gets into my tonsils and decays in there. The cycle makes me very sick and weak while the tonsil stones form (if you're easily grossed out, don't google them!)
I need to pay £4000 to get this treatment but if I don't get a job and can't go to uni, how am I supposed to afford it?! The NHS do tonsillectomies all the time!
A bit about me: I achieved a 2:1 in my first year and a 1st in my second year but the 3rd year involves a lot of teamwork and people refuse to work with me because of the smell (very embarassing btw!)
I want to go back to uni, get my degree and start work like all my friends! I have tried getting a job but my interviewers hate the smell and I always get an excuse as to why they can't hire me - even for VOLUNTARY/ UNPAID ROLES!
The NHS recognize the issue but are trying to get me a shrink to deal with the emotional side of the illness. This is stupid because that will mean becoming an unemployed person living on benefits and not contributing positively towards the growth of the economy EVEN THOUGH I AM FULLY CAPABLE!
I have been to the doctor 32 times, but they won't refer me for the surgery and claim that I need to suffer the illness for 2 years before they can consider it! I have had this illness for 3 years though so I have started a petition. If you understand my story and HATE TALKING TO PEOPLE WITH BAD BREATH(!!!!!) Please sign my petition :)
