I went out with my girlfriend today and as soon as we got out of the car, she asked me to carry her bag. It wasn't a handbag, just a black bag with her university stuff in it - not particularly heavy. She usually asks me to carry it for her when we go out. I told her to carry it herself, she said as the guy I should offer to carry it.
She is a little bit spoilt, her parents do a lot for her and she expects me to do a lot (maybe too much?) for her.
Was I right in telling her to hold her own bag to teach her how to be independent and mature, but most importantly to show her I'm not going to wait on her hand and foot like her parents do, or should I have held it for her as a polite gesture, to help her out - after all she had been studying all day while I had just been relaxing.
