Tire experts on here?

Anyone well versed in wheels and tires on at the moment?

Last week I had brand new winter tires mounted on my factory steel rims (I plan to buy alloy wheels and new set of summer tires next spring) and on the weekend I noticed a bulge on the sidewall of one of them. Took it back to the tire shop this morning and they told me the rim was damaged, had 3 or 4 flat spots, and since these nokian tires require much higher initial pressure to seat the bead it likely caused the malformed side wall. I told them they should have informed me of this damage before they mounted the tires, and the guy on the phone agreed with me.

So now I need the rim repaired or replaced - has to be the factory steel rim since it matches the wheel covers. My main concern is if this sidewall was actually damaged from this, or if it is just malformed since its not seated properly?

Don't expect much response on here, but I find I trust all y'all TAMers more than other anonymous people on the net ;) so hopefully one of you guys has some useful advice?
