How much drinking is considered "Alcoholism"?

ok, my husband just bought a keg, how much drinking is "alcoholism"? He drinks 4 to 6 beers a night, every night. It sounds terrible, I know but his family has always drunk, intellectual drunks, very high functioning, good jobs, recognized and respected success, members of countless wine clubs.. The thing is it is hard to complain when it doesn't negatively impact us (not yet) I am afraid of health consequences later on.

I know, it is alcoholism if he can't stop but there is never really reason for him to stop, I could I guess ask him not to drink to prove he can go without, he has done in the past but has called me controlling.

He says: "life is too short not to drink good beer"

Maybe I am just looking for things to complain about?

A dinner with his family looks like this, martini at the bar while waiting for the table, a bottle of wine (or two) paired with the meal, champagne or cognac with the dessert... Needless to say I stop with the first glass of wine.

Anyway this is just to demonstrate where is he coming from.
I come from non-drinking background.
