Hi anon please
I have a friend, or rather a colleague I guess. He is only 22 and has had a really rough few months. His mum died very suddenly, and I think she was young and healthy otherwise. From what I understand (although he hasn't talked about it much) he saw it happen and the aftermath recovery attempts. This happened literally only a few weeks ago and at the time he had said that it was extremely traumatic and horrendous obviously.
Now, I don't want to seem as though I am deciding how people should feel, but he has returned to work (and we both work in a very fast paced City grad scheme) a week ago, so no time off at all really. He seems to be almost completely normal, but then seems to zone out when you're talking to him sometimes and can't really remember conversations, but otherwise he is very cheerful, laughing and joking and seems to be able to focus on work.
I obviously wasn't there, but it sounds like he has witnessed something incredibly disturbing and can't imagine what he is going through, but it makes me concerned that he doesn't seem to be that affected by it and should I perhaps have a word with him? Do you think he is still in shock and postponing dealing with it?
I did see him break down one lunchtime when he was talking to one of his friends, very briefly, but then seemed to put himself back together.
Seems like he is trying hard to put himself together but could he be heading for a meltdown?
