I was interested in a close male friend for a long time and a couple of months ago I told him (mainly because I was ninety percent convinced he was interested too - various signs, lots of time spent together, kept catching him staring at me etc). He initially said he wasn't interested (or rather didn't say he was) and then two months later said he'd not been able to enjoy himself for ages because he'd been thinking about me and that he was interested.
