To diagnose or not to diagnose?

I have read different things on here and on some internet websites as well regarding mental illness diagnoses.

I have read some people say their spouse or loved one had been diagnosed with things like NDP, BPD etc, but then I have read where others have said not many therapists like to diagnose people with things such as NPD or BPD? Why is that? Is it an insurance thing, is that not recognized? I have read on some websites that some therapists wont tell a NPD or BPD person ( and wont tell the spouse) that is what they actually have, due to it could cause more harm to them and than good.

I just seem to see lots of people who have said they had been diagnosed with or know others who have been diagnosed with those illnesses, but then read where most therapist wont diagnose it as that, so was just wondering how it is some people can get that diagnoses and some don't? I guess it depends on the therapist?

Also, has anyone had a diagnoses by a therapist, or known someone who was diagnosed, and later on found out that therapist to have been wrong about the diagnoses?
