I've lived with my partner in another country for around 4 months. So far, i've seen my family for a weekend or a 3-day weekend each month. I have the opportunity to stay with them for 5 nights at Christmas, and after this, I'll just go back to monthly weekend visits, probably until the summer, due to my working holidays.
My boyfriend and his family don't place a lot of value on Christmas due to their religion, for them it's not an essential time to be together etc.
My parents had been making hints saying it would be great to see me over Christmas, asking when i'm coming, etc. And of course I'd love to see them, plus friends who I don't see that often due to living abroad.
I've told my partner i'll go for these few days, but he seems a bit funny for some reason. I'm not sure why. I wonder if I am being selfish going for a longer time. But as I said, I only see my family one weekend per month usually, but I live with him permanently, and he doesn't really celebrate Christmas anyway. I've even offered him to come and spend it with us, since him and his family don't really celebrate it, but he hasn't really said anything.
I'm not sure if I am being selfish, and maybe I should go for less days? I'll be with him for the New Year anyway, and he hasn't proposed to us to do anything else together, and doesn't have that many holidays. He said he knew I would go back, but doesn't really seem that pleased for me, and it's making me feel guilty or something... what should I do? Thanks in advance for any replies.
