he only wants me when he's drunk

I met a guy a few months ago who lives around 4 hours away from me. He came down to see me a few weeks back. We ended up sleeping together after a night out of drinking. For the other 2 nights, he seemed more distant and there was no physical contact between us, he didn't even so much as hug me when he left. Since he left we carried on texting, and he phones me when he's drunk. It's when he's had a drink that he asks me to come up and see him, but he won't mention it when he's sober. I don't know what to do, I like him a lot and I do plan to go and see him when I've got the money and once I've moved into my new flat; but I feel like it's an awkward conversation to bring up unless I know he's drunk because I don't know what his answer will be... Can someone help? And let me know if I'm stupid?
