We've only just split up..

I know this is long but please take the time to read it, I really need help. My boyfriend and I have just come back from a 10 day holiday to Spain. It was amazing, but straight after we came back things went wrong. I had a free house all weekend because my parents went away, but not once did he stop over (despite asking him), and this is out of the ordinary because there is usually not a night where we're sleeping by ourselves. He spent every night at the pub instead. After this, he stopped talking to me completely, saying that he 'needed space' and that his life revolved around me 24/7, and that he wanted to see some other friends. I'm not a psycho, I do let my boyfriend see his friends.. He can do what he likes! So I'm insulted that he felt the need to pull the 'I need space' card just to see his friends! Anyway, things escalated last night when he said some nasty things about our relationship not lasting at uni, and that I took up so much of his time and money that he doesn't have money to fix his car. I decided quickly that I didn't want to be with someone who felt that I was some money sucking leach (even though we've been together for over a year), and we split up in a rash manner. This morning, I called him to ask if we could speak rationally and see if we could come to an agreement - at the end of the day, I love this guy to pieces and I can't justify breaking up over a few harsh words, we've overcome stuff like that before. He was having none of it, and said that he didn't want to talk to me again. But I also received a message from a friends ex boyfriend this morning, explaining that my boyfriend had picked up his ex from a holiday. In the New Forest! At 3AM! Which is 2.5 hours each way from where we live! I'm shocked and upset that he doesn't want to talk rationally and that he'd moan to me about spending his money, when he's spent near enough £50 on petrol to pick up another girl! I want an explanation, and I still want to talk, but is it a good idea? What's your opinion on my sticky situation?
