Friend/Guy Dilemma

One of my closest friends really like a guy (let's call him Adam) and asked him out last year, but he didn't feel the same way back. She was really upset by the situation, but her and Adam soon returned to being good friends again. Shortly afterwards, she met a new guy, who we'll call Ricky. They're in a long distance relationship and at the start, their relationship was up and down. When my friend went through these hard times, she turned to Adam for support and he was with her every step of the way. Ricky knows about the Adam situation, and strongly dislikes Adam because of it. My close friend has distanced herself from Adam by choice to please her boyfriend. Fast forward a year, I really like Adam and he's showing a lot of signs that he likes me back. It's looking quite likely that our friendship will blossom into something a bit more, but I'm worried that I'll lose someone I've been close friends with throughout secondary school. What do I do?
