Overly confused.. :)

Broke up with boyfriend of four months - he ended it because we were compatible, but he still had feelings for me. A month after splitting up we got into an exclusive friends with benefits situation. The exclusive fwb lasted for three months in total. He ended it because he thought it would be better for us as we both still had feelings involved and it all got really complicated as it seemed like we were still together - holding hands, going out to places - cinemas, dinner, kisses and cuddles in public. So now we are just friends, but the attraction is still there for one another. I asked for the fwb back, but he said it probably isn't a good idea and he is unsure about what he wants currently. (what does this mean?) I know he still has feelings for me and when we are together in person he's very affectionate and loving, but when we aren't with each other, I always have to text him first, I know texting isn't everything, but it makes me feel as th ough I put all the effort in when we aren't in person? He replies back when I do text him, its just very rare he texts first. ive made loads of threads on this situation, but its really getting to me now, especially as im just sat indoors all day doing nothing as revision is over.
