Need advice: Asking out a girl I barely know

I met a girl who works in a shop, we chatted for a few minutes, had quite a laugh. Anyway I'm thinking of going back one day and asking her for her number, and if she wants to hang out/meet up. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for going about this? Where's a good place? I've a feeling a lot of people will recommend meeting at Starbucks but I dunno, it just sounds a bit boring to me, like it wouldn't reflect me as an exciting or outgoing person (not that I'm either, particularly :D). On the other hand meeting up for cocktails is possibly a little forward or intimidating considering I don't know her. Any suggestions? And should I suggest we meet up during the day (e.g. after she finishes work), or in the evening? :S
