An old flame that keeps burning

I have been with a fella for about fourteen months, we have broken up several times. We usually break up for a month and somehow manage to get back together. This last time we broke up it was because he needed some "me" time and I was living with him, so I had to pack my crap up and head out. Now I have managed to get on my feet, have a place of my own and am doing really well I think. Recently he wanted to get back together. I have also just started a new job. He hassels me about when am I coming over to see him and how come I am not staying the night. It seems ridiculous to me that he is acting like this considering when I was unemployed and having a hard time making it he kicks me out. Also everytime we break up I end up talking to someone new because I am always under the impression that we are done. So I try to move on. As soon as I start talking to someone else he wants me back. He doesnt know I am talking to someone else I dont think. Anyhow the advice I am looking for is I dont know how many chances a person thinks they deserve? And if I should just write him off this time. Of course he is playing it up real nice like, being really sweet and buying things that I like. I am just not buying that he really loves me like he says he does or that he wants any kind of commitment what so ever. Any advice? Please would be very appreciated.
