I had to take a train to meet a friend in the late(ish) evening, so the station wasn't as packed as usual. I was using a travel card and it didn't work at the barrier so one of the staff signaled me to come over for help. I was a bit nervous because he was in a large group of staff huddled together at the end of the barriers. He was a black, tall male with a gold tooth and the group was mostly tall black men. They were laughing with one another as I approached and looked very intimidating. Anyway, he told me that he needed to see some form of ID... I was confused by this and asked why. He chuckled and said he needed it to "check". I was thinking WTF but didn't want to cause a problem and make this go on for longer than necessary (besides a few people were stood around so I assumed I was safe). I showed him my oyster card. He analysed it and then asked where I was headed to. I didn't feel comfortable, so I told him a different location. He then asked me to meet him at the station on my way back home. The conversation escalated that quickly. I looked at him and realised that the whole ID thing was a trap (he wanted to stall me to talk).
The guy looked over 30 (I'm 18) so it really made me feel uncomfortable. He went on to tell me that I'm "gorgeous" all the while keeping me to one side. I asked him for my ticket back so I could go through. He didn't listen. Nobody passing us at the barrier said anything despite overhearing the inappropriate conversation until a man asked if I was okay. I nervously said "no, he's not giving me my ticket back and is being inappropriate.". The guy saw my really nervous expression so told him to "back off" and to give it back if there was no problem with it. I was surprised by his defending me and instantly felt safer. Other staff told him to give it back (feeling embarrassed) and he did. He smiled at me really creepily. Like a "I'm going to get you regardless" kind of smile. The guy who was waiting for a train and overheard the conversation stood to the side with me for a few seconds just to make sure I got to leave. I thanked him a lot and he said he was worried because of the look on my face. I thanked him for helping me out (a lot lol). I had to take a longer route home that night and am feeling quite uneasy and a bit sick. I couldn't be rude to the guy because he had my ticket... I don't want to go to the station anymore in case I come across the guy. It's quite a busy station and one I often pass through. Nonetheless, I feel really uneasy and unsafe going there again. The look the guy gave me was so chilling. Like a "you got away this time" look. My friends went through yesterday and didn't see him. Have any girls/guys been in such a situation? One of my friends said I was overreacting and should be "flattered". I felt in danger and still do.
