| Valentines Day is a huge thing down here. Usually everything remotely connected to romance is completely sold out in stores. From teddy bears to roses to cards. Wifey likes fine dining so usually on Valentine's night we have dinner at a nice restaurant. Our best Valentines actually started off really, really bad. She likes ethnic foods , so I got a friend to book dinner reservations at an exclusive, authentic , Thai foods restaurant. The reason I asked her ( the friend) to make the reservations was because on Valentine's evening most of these restaurants are literally sold out and this restaurant usually caters for its clientele first , which consists of the " who is who ." Anyway I was really excited, it's hard for me to keep a secret from her , but I managed. We got dressed , she is excited and kept asking for clues. Finally we reached ,valet parking etc. She smiles, impressed as we enter the lobby , the ambiance , music , everything is Thai ,even the waitresses. Then the nightmare begins. We had to wait in the lobby for almost one hour before our seat was available. Then after ushering us in , the waitress simply disappeared. The restaurant was filled to capacity and very short staffed. After waiting for almost an hour I was livid , and hungry. A few other couples appeared to be in our same predicament . My wife has a lot of patience , not me , but she has the ability to restrain me ... After about an hour we decided to leave. I knew it was hopeless , and we wouldn't be able to get another restaurant. Not on Valentines night , but we were both very hungry. Drove around the city looking for something to eat. We bought two fish burgers from a roadside vendor , sat on a bench and began to eat in silence. Halfway through the meal she looks at me and says mockingly ; "...hon, this Thai food is reeealy good ! I love it , thanks for bringing me here..." she leans over , hugs and plants a big smooch on my cheeks. " ....happy Valentines dear..." We both burst out laughing at ourselves and the entire situation. In between the laughter , we would stop and mock each other saying " happy Valentines dear!" It was really , really funny, but romantic at the same time . We were both on the same wavelength , despite the odds being heavily stacked against us. My attempt to impress her was an epic fail , but we scored with each other , anyway. Feel free to post yours , looking forward to reading it ! | |||
