Too Late To Make Friends & Go To Societies?

Hi, Its now the second semester, and I am yet to make many friends. The only friends I have are the school friends who took the same course as me at university. I also have the people I worked with on the project. Thing is, I wasn't used to the university environment during my 1st semester that I didn't interact and socialize with many people. Since I live at home, it made it worse to meet people. Is it late to make friends and go to societies. One of the societies have a social clubbing event and I'm definitely up for that. Any tips/advise as to meeting more people and being open. I'm willing to change. The first semester wasn't easy.
