I know that as a girl it does have some effect on how I see a guy, rightly or wrongly. E.g. if a guy was close friends with a bunch of promiscuous party-going arrogant jerks, or a buch of 'badmanz' then Im likely to conclude that he is a similar type of person at first glance unless of course I get to know him well. OTOH if a scruffy-ish looking average guy with slightly underconfident body language was friends with a bunch of well dressed well spoken and confident looking guys I'm likely to think he is similar to them and it will raise his 'standing' in my eyes compared to if he was with people with similar appearance to himself.
Does the same go for girls? I always hear people (online and IRL) saying how hot/fit girls always have hot friends. This might touch a nerve or two but most of my friends are average or below average in terms of looks so does that mean I will be perceived as similar, and wouldn't be seen as a 'fit girl'?
Don't get me wrong I love my friends for their personalities and would never ditch them for something so superficial - i'm talking purely hypotheticals.
