Do women just like the idea of a beard?

On the internet beards, like bacon, are almost universally adored. In real life most seem indifferent towards them.

I reckon they're 'liked' more by women on the internet because it's a nice idea and a solid indicator of masculinity, but you don't have to think about the reality which can be quite scratchy I suppose.
