Problems with people at my uni

Hello. Despite my best efforts to socialise, the people I see at my university are dismissive, contemptuous, rude, inconsiderate, self-absorbed or absorbed with someone else and closed boxes. The people I meet are shallow in many senses: their conversations are tasteless or dull and no one ever wishes to follow up on a conversation. I was used to having a few deep friends at college, people I could rely on and frequently convene with. I have no such friends yet and my search is arduous and painful.
