How important is his family in your decision to marry?

I'd like to hear from others about how important his family was in your decision to marry. If he or his family were of another religion, another race, another socioeconomic class, would that have affected your decision to marry him? Do you have differences that affect your marriage? And can the two of you acknowledge those struggles or do you just not talk about it or worse, have fights over the differences? In other words, did you get married despite your husband's background or decide not to date/get serious/accept a proposal because your backgrounds were too different?
