I've known a girl in my year for a few years - we first really started talking in years 8 & 9 where I'd sit next to her in most lessons (because of the alphabetical seating) and we'd often have a chat and generally get on well. Despite us never being in the same friendship groups, we would often work together and get on well with each other.
After this we were in quite different classes through GCSE and I didn't really talk to her much. At the time I had no feelings for her, and we went our separate ways.
However, for the last year we've been in the same tutor group and in some same classes. During this time we've started speaking again and I've realised how much I like her.
Throughout the last year she's always smiled at me in the morning (which I've reciprocated), and we often share a joke and get on well together. However, we're not in the same friendship group (in fact, we're in very different social circles) and we haven't work together/don't sit together in lessons.
I'd like to ask her out to dinner, or something similar, just to get to know her a bit more. However, as a naturally shy person, asking her face to face is quite a daunting prospect. Also, I'm never alone with her, so finding the time to do it would be hard. I thought about sending her a message, but this just seem tacky and lazy.
I'm also wondering whether she's interested in me romantically. I'm not the best looking (just average), but more than make up for that by just being a kind and compassionate person. To me, she gives off a sense of warmth and also is very kind and caring and have a feeling that we share the same assets and expectations when it comes to a relationship.
I'm just wondering whether anybody has any advice on how to proceed.
Thanks in advance.
