| For those of you that truly love irony, the way things are working out in Egypt is a veritable smorgasbord of Obama's foreign policy incompetence. But, it's likely working out to the benefit of the US and - ironically enough - Israel. The Washington Post recently - breathlessly - reported that the Egyptian people actually support the massive bloodletting of Muslim Brotherhood resistance by the military. How in the world are the people supporting the widespread slaughter of a political group they elected to the Presidency just one year before? If you answered the question - Obama's influence - you are a winner. If you look at the placards in Tahrir Square recently, you'll see the Egyptian people now associate the Muslim Brotherhood - and Morsi in particular - with Barack Obama and our incompetent ambassador. Every word Obama utters about "including" the Brotherhood in the new government marks them as his guys - and the outsiders. Terrorism isn't a crime in the middle east. The real crime there is treason. Morsi tried to take out the Egyptian judiciary. If they now turn around and convict the Brotherhood of being Obama's and Anne Patterson's tools... and make it stick in the court of public opinion? The Egyptian military can then simply take them out without a ripple of public protest. And... seeing Obama weigh into Syria on the side of the Brotherhood? That won't help old Dr. Morsi one bit. Obama is an amateur. He views Egyptian politics through the lens of American race-baiting. He sees brown-skins as victims of the white man. So, he figures he has credibility with them. He may have set the Brotherhood back decades with his type of support. I sincerely hope so. | |||
