Going to Uni - but not with my girlfriend

So i've been accepted into Uni to start in September. I'm originally from Ireland, but will be studying in Leicester. My girlfriend is a year younger than me, so she won't be going to uni until next year. We're both pretty worried - although we don't show it, nor talk about it. We've only been together 3 months too, although it feels like much longer. Realistically, what is the chances a relationship will make it with one being at Uni in a different country? Literally everyone is doing their best to warn us to not expect much. It's annoying. Thanks.
