What's the deal?

Can't get my head round this. My friend (who likes this girl - she doesn't know he likes her) got a text from her saying she'd split up with her boyfriend, but my mate told me that the day later the supposed ex-bf was liking and commenting all over her Facebook and Twitter. He says she's puts a Facebook status saying she's down in the dumps. He asked me if he should ask if she was okay, but I said to wait a bit as it might be a bit obvious - then he says her 'ex', had replied to her status asking if she was okay, to which she didn't reply. He then tells me she puts a status saying how some OTHER guy has been cheering her up, and her 'ex' comments asking if she's okay. She doesn't reply. I don't know what to tell him. Whether he should go for it, whether she's got another guy on the cards three days after splitting up with her bf, or if she just simply hasn't split up with him. Ideas?
