My Brother Hits me, Hard!

I'm 17 and my older brother is 20. We don't get along usually, as being from an ethnic background where the males are favored, i always envied his life. Being a female in the household the domestic chores are left for me to complete, whist he sits around on his Xbox. Now i was hoovering when he asked me to get him a drink,(bearing in mind he is just playing COD). I said no as i was obviously busy. So he gets up and strikes me hard on the face, saying that i should know my place. He hits me on a daily basis e.g touching his computer, locking the bathroom door etc. I've tried telling my parents but they use the excuse of 'well he's a boy', 'i'll sort him out later' and so on. It's getting the point know where i feel like i'm trapped and don't know what to do. So what should i do? I can't report him to the police as i will have bought shame upon the family, but i can't carry on like his anymore either.
