| Wanting anecdotes from people with spouses who refuse to work or contribute financially. Mine always seems to set it up so he gets discharged from his job, or refuses to look for something more than part time. I know he is competent. He worked full time in a supervisory position when we met. After marriage, he acts like he doesn't even have the skills to fill out a job application. I once resigned a job for a move we made and thought he would then pick up his part of the team effort, but his lack of initiative would have reduced us to homelessness. I had to get a menial job and work my way up again, but I was willing to take anything. He had every excuse not to look until after I got employed. He got the current p/t job he has now because I looked for work for him and filled out the application - he even had me drive him to the interview! I've learned from this great group therapy that I have codependency issues which contributed (but not any more!) But I want to hear from others how long is too long to put up with it and if that in itself is justification for giving the boot. Has anyone had luck getting someone who lost their work ethic "back in the groove"? | |||
