why can't they just accept him?

I've been with my boyfriend for nearly 2 years and still my parents won't accept him. When we first got together he didn't have a job or go to college so they saw him as a waste of space. Then something happened in our relationship to which his Mum involved the police and since then my parents hate me speaking to him. I just want them to accept that we are together still and that now he is changing his life around as he has a job and goes to college. How can I do this without them hating me?
