What should I do regarding a girl?

Hello. I have a fairly lengthy story to share, and I could really do with some feedback on what I should do. Ok, so I I'm a sixth form student, and I have a huge crush on this girl. She's only in one of my lessons, and I don't hang around anywhere near her during free time as our friends aren't mutual. We've always made eye contact - since I met her, numerous times a day. Like, you can feel that there's a connection. I acted upon this mutual attraction and wrote a poem about her, which I entered for a poetry competition. It came 2nd out of 9000 applicants. After that, it was announced in assembly and everyone seemed quite impressed. We started to talk more in lessons, and we were enjoying each other's company. A while later, my friend and I were having a sleepover, and we thought it would be a good idea to message a girl on each others friends list on Facebook. He chose to message the girl I like's friend, who after a few messages admitted that the girl I fancy likes me, so she obviously feels something from the looks we give each other. The next day, I messaged the girl's friend, telling her that I liked my crush, and said I was going to let her know on Valentine's Day. She said that it was a good idea. For the next couple of weeks, the girl I like moved chairs in class, so now she sits almost next to me, but I think her friend told her that I like her because she's acting colder towards me and just generally different, but we still look at each other. My friends this could just be nerves, but IDK. I've stopped talking to her as much because there's an awkward sensation it the air. A week later, her friend messaged me again saying "I don't think you should do that Valentine's Day thing, don't think (name of girl) is that kind of girl". This made me think that my crush has gone off me, but she genuinely is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, so I don't want to be put off by this. It's an unusual situation because we don't know each other very well. I need help now. I was planning to give this girl the poem I wrote on Valentine's Day, but I was put off. However, I recently came to the conclusion that I really do like this girl, and we still look at each other in an attracted kind of way, so there's still something.
