I missed my girlfriend's graduation

I had planned on going to my partner's graduation but my uni would not accept that it was a valid reason for missing lectures. They operate a 3 strike absense policy before you are thrown off the course. It would have been my first strike. When I told her she said it would be okay to miss it but I have a feeling this will be brought up in any future arguments. What can I do???? :(
